I know it’s only mid-January but the sun is shining and it’s got me thinking about the months ahead. Summer is a great time of year to explore the countryside. The clear blue skies and warm weather mean that you can see all that the countryside has to offer. With that in mind, here are three different activities that you can do in the countryside.
Hiking is a lot of fun. The satisfaction of climbing up somewhere high and looking down where you started is like nothing else. There is walking paths and trails beyond count that you can enjoy. These go from short walks to long hikes, so anyone can enjoy seeing what the countryside has to offer. In the summer months, it is particularly enjoyable as all of the plant life is in bloom or has grown to its fullest. This combined with all of the animal life that you can spot along your walk makes hiking one of the most enjoyable countryside activities around. You can hike up hills and mountains, or you can explore woodlands and see what they have to offer. Both are very different experiences, but both are incredibly satisfying and enjoyable. Hiking and walking are also great ways to get healthy and have a fun day out at the same time. If you are feeling particularly adventurous, then you might even pack a tent and camp for the night during your hike. This is probably only relevant if you are planning to walk a long way, but it can be a fun activity nonetheless.
Cycling is one of the most enjoyable things to do in the country. You get to feel the rush of the wind and the excitement of travelling at speed, and you get to see the countryside in all its glory. This was one of my favourite activities to do growing up. Cycling means you can travel large distances in a short amount of time, so you can take the scenic views in. You might even decide to go mountain biking and cycle up hills and through woods. This can be even more exhilarating as it can require you to go down steep slopes or across narrow pathways. You should be careful when mountain biking though, as you don’t want to put yourself in any dangerous situations. However, if you know what you are doing, then you can’t beat a good cycle ride or mountain bike through the countryside.
If you are planning to stay by a lake or river, then there are probably several water sports activities that you can participate in. If you get the chance, then you can probably go kayaking, canoeing or even jet skiing. Each of these are things that you probably won’t have the chance to do back home, and you should jump at the chance. You can explore rivers while kayaking or travel across the lake in a canoe. The types of water sports available will differ from location to location, but if you enjoy this kind of thing, then you should plan your trip so that you have a location where you can do your chosen sport.
