New York Bucket List

In three months time I will be heading to New York City for a week and I still can’t believe I get to tick it off the list of places I want to visit. New York has so much to offer and I’m sure everyone has different reasons why they want to explore the city that never sleeps but I’ve put together a list of things I want to do whilst I’m there, besides, y’know, eat all the food

New York City

Hail a yellow taxi

Ok this one should be fairly easy for me to tick off seeing as we’re getting a taxi from the airport to our hotel. But you see it all the time in films and TV shows and it’s just something you have to do. A bit like getting a red bus in London.

Visit the 9/11 memorial

I couldn’t go to New York and not visit the 9/11 memorial. I still remember that day and watching the news and seeing all the loss and devastation caused and it’s only right to go and pay respects to the victims.

Go to a live TV show taping

We’re staying a few minutes away from Times Square so hopefully this will be easy enough to do. And if all else fails they film Good Morning America there so we can always swing by and hope to see that getting filmed.

Take a ferry to see the Statue of Liberty

We’re going to take a ferry to see the Statue of Liberty and take some snaps of lower Manhattan too. As much as we want to see the statue, we don’t want to get off on the island and explore it in detail.

Explore Central Park

There are so many things to do in Central Park that I could spend the whole week walking around it and still not see it all. We’ll be going to the Central Park Zoo and checking out the Bethesda Terrace and Fountain for all the Home Alone 2 and Friends feels.

See the world-renowned Plaza Hotel

I say see, because I sure as hell can’t afford to stay here. The Plaza Hotel is featured in Home Alone 2 which is one of my favourites films. Hopefully I won’t bump into a certain person in the lobby…

Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge

I want to walk across from Brooklyn to Manhattan to get those skyline views. And since Brooklyn beer is my absolute favourite, it’s only right that I have a cold one and maybe do the brewery tour while in the famous borough.

Go to a NHL game

I knew when we booked New York that I wanted to do something sports related. As we’re going in February the only leagues on at that time is NHL or NBA, so Ice Hockey it is! Go Rangers! Plus it’s at Madison Square Garden. Another one ticked off.

New York City
Go to a Broadway show

Since we’ll be in the Big Apple for a week we’re going to try and catch a show on Broadway. We’re lucky enough that our hotel is quite central to a lot of things and Broadway is a few minutes away so this would be an absolute dream.

So that’s my (shortened) list of things I want to do in New York. Obviously we’ll be doing other things such as checking out the Empire State Building and the Rockefeller Center. Not to mention I have a whole separate list of food related things I want to do.

Have you been to New York? What was your favourite thing to do? If you have any recommendations please leave them in the comment section.

  1. I’ve been to NY twice (most recently a few months ago) and it’s incredible! The Brooklyn Bridge is one of my favorite things to do. Also take a quick walk on the Brooklyn Heights promenade for alternative views of lower Manhattan. I worked in a theater for four years and I love musicals! Saw Les Mis and Kinky Boots both in NY, both amazing!
